Generalization:

Once the skill is performed accurately and independently under one condition, are you arranging multiple opportunities for the student to practice giving compliments to different people (related to different attributes and behaviors), and in multiple settings?

Are you arranging opportunities for the student to practice issuing compliments at different points within an interaction (e.g. using a compliment to initiate an interaction, versus issuing a compliment as an aside during an ongoing interaction, versus issuing a compliment that “piggy-backs” off of someone else’s compliment)?

Have you adapted visual supports so that they can remain in the natural environments that this student encounters now, and in the future?

What subtle reminder cues might the student refer back to in order to “refresh” his understanding and performance of this social communication skill?

Are you collecting data to make adjustments to your teaching and to ensure that the student is performing the skill appropriately across multiple conditions?
