Video Models:

Can this skill be appropriately depicted in a video model?

This social communication skill can be depicted in a video modeling sequence. Based on the needs of the student, this video model might capture only the most basic sequence of steps, or perhaps it will capture more complex interactions that demand attention to the more subtle features of the interaction.

Here is one example of a video model that depicts a greeting exchange within the workplace.

This is the right way to respond to a greeting. When the first co-worker says, "Good morning," the second co-worker immediately responds. Notice that he looks towards his co-worker, he has a friendly expression, and his tone of voice is upbeat.

Have you task analyzed this skill to ensure that your video clearly depicts every key step that comprises the skill?

Who will you use as “actors” in this video – will the targeted student be included in the video? Is the student comfortable serving as an actor in the video?

Will you shoot this video from the perspective of the student (first person) or from the third person perspective?

Will you narrate the video?

How will you ensure that the student experiences opportunities to not only review the skill via the video model, but to also engage in repeated rehearsal of the skill across multiple contexts?

Will the student be able to review the video just prior to expected performance of that skill (priming)?
