Are you arranging opportunities for the student to practice the targeted skill in natural environments and under natural conditions?
Once the skill is reviewed and visual structures are developed, ideally this skill is presented, monitored and reinforced at home. Each day can be used as a practice opportunity in a natural setting. Each day, one must get ready and dressed; thus, use weekdays, for example, as days where you practice appropriate hygiene and dressing. Do school staff review the list with the student once he arrives to assure that there are no adjustments needed in the system?
Have you adapted visual supports so that they can remain in the natural environments that this student encounters now, and in the future?
Are you collecting data to make adjustments to your teaching and to ensure that the student is performing the skill across multiple conditions?
