Are you arranging opportunities for the student to practice the targeted skill in natural environments and under natural conditions?
The practice of this skill in natural environments can be complicated! Once the student practices in role-play and staged activities, identify a setting in which these interactions might occur. The student may be in a chess club, a service club, or other activity group at school where the natural practice can occur. Facilitate the student practicing the skill in natural environments systematically. You may want to be in touch with the job coach to determine if there is a peer at a job training site that might provide an opportunity for natural practice.
Have you adapted visual supports so that they can remain in the natural environments that this student encounters now, and in the future?
Ensure that any visual support is portable, clear and available for review before the student will potentially use the skill.
Are you collecting data to make adjustments to your teaching and to ensure that the student is performing the skill across multiple conditions?
Because the task analysis here is so detailed, data of performance levels on each step may prove very helpful in both intervention design and in determining when to move to the next step.
