Are you arranging opportunities for the student to practice organizing information in various ways and with different materials?
Identifying the information necessary for job applications is only the beginning; actually recording the information in an organized way is the primary goal of this topic skill. Students will have their own personal preferences for how to do this (with which you will provide guidance). However, in preparation for the later step of actually completing job applications, it is important that the student is able to adapt reporting the information per requirements of the employer (hand-written forms, online templates with drop-down options, applications that request the information out of order from the student’s own collection, etc.) For some students, it could be beneficial to provide multiple formatting options for students to practice re-organizing their information after meeting the initial goal of collection and organization. Consider games that involve matching cut-outs of information to the correct type on a form, or conduct a social activity where students match the information with the correct student!
Which visual supports might be carried over to natural environments to ensure that the student continues to independently perform the expected skill?
As the student collects and records the information on a graphic organizer(s), is he storing it in a place where he can easily access it when completing applications and making updates? If the information is handwritten and stored in a file in the classroom, it is unlikely the student will access it independently or when not at school. While it is helpful to keep a copy at school where you work with the student, it may be beneficial if the student also has a copy to keep. If possible, perhaps the student should type the information and store it on an online cloud server, within an email account, or on a portable flash drive.
Are you collecting data (permanent products of his organized information) to make adjustments to your teaching as needed?
