What communication scripts might you use to support practice of this skill? Are these complete scripts or just key words to support initiation?
A script may not be as important in the long term as learning to routinely use the visual instructions within a schedule, a check list or a reminder card. The script may be a valuable teaching tool in helping with related skills that interfere with quick transitions, such as self-calming or asking for help. Anxiety produced by the inability to pack up finished materials, obtain new materials, move to a new area, or prepare for an upcoming event in a timely fashion, can be reduced through using the visual supports with needed assistance while gaining competence.
What scenarios might you present (using scenario Act it Out cards) to help students produce their own dialogue and interactions to practice or role-play in a scene?
As noted earlier, role-play is likely to be used only briefly and initially to orient the student to how to use his visual supports. Role-play in a safe environment can, however, support student confidence and initiation in natural transitions.
What video scenarios might you present to help students make accurate discriminations between efficient transitions and less efficient transitions?
In order to align this intervention topic area with the unique needs of the student, do you need to create scripts or scenarios in the View2do program?
