What visual instructions or reminder cues should be present in each space to support sequenced and organized performance? Where should these be placed?
Perhaps the student needs a reminder card placed in the front of their agenda next to their schedule at the beginning of the day:
Some students may need to start preparing to leave the class a few minutes early and/or leave a few minutes early to avoid the crowds and distractions in the hall. The instructor or the student might fill in the precise times on this reminder card:
Some students may need a basic reminder card placed on their work area for a specific task on the job sites. The reminder card might indicate precisely what to do, and at what time this should happen:
How can I organize the materials (or help the student organize) to support independent performance? Where do materials go when they are finished?
Organization of materials and space will be critical in order for the student to successfully transition from one activity to the next. Labeled binders or containers for materials, work space placement, having the use of check lists/to-do lists placed in a specific routine place (in a binder or placed on a desk at school, or on a clip board or placed near their workspace on a job,) close to where the student can access them, will encourage independent performance.
Using a watch with alarms or having a clock in the vicinity may help the student assess how much time he has before he needs to move on to the next activity.
In my design of each visual support, have I considered whether the student may need visual clarity cues (added to the environmental design, communication script or scenario, schedule, to-do list, graphic organizer, social narrative, and/or video model) to highlight (label) or emphasize key features or concepts?
Consider whether any of the schedules, to-do lists, reminder cards, or clocks need extra highlighting for those most important transition times or upcoming events.
In order to align this intervention topic area with the unique needs of the student, do you need to create visual instructions and reminder cues in the View2do program?
