How can the schedule be used to support the student in responding to and coping with bullying?
Use the student’s schedule as a way to maintain practice of coping plans, anger-management, and anxiety-regulation plans. Specifically, if you are using a social narrative to teach the student how to respond to bullying, add that practice time into their schedule as needed so that the concepts remain fresh and familiar. Or, if you are teaching the student to use a visual coping plan to handle the stress of bullying, add “Practice coping plan” into their schedule. Perhaps, it makes sense to attach the coping plan to the back of the schedule or place it near the schedule so that it is easily accessible. If the schedule is housed on a mobile device, it may be appropriate to house the coping plan there as well.
Since the schedule is referenced frequently throughout the day, it is a good place to include visual reminders. A written reminder may read “Remember to use your coping plan when stressed.”
