What are some reinforcing consequences you can deliver either immediately following the desired behavior or following a practice session– things that this particular student enjoys, wants, seeks out, etc.?
If the student uses a reward system (such as a point-chart), and is challenged by this topic, be sure to reward her fairly! Completion of a task might generally result in the student receiving a single “point,” but if the stressful resume task has multiple components, such as completing 2-3 sections on a template, perhaps the points should be awarded per successful section.
Are you using labeling and social praise to make the contingency between desired behavior and reinforcing consequence clear to the student?
If the student does well, congratulate him by stating explicitly what is correct. For example, “You have all of your work experiences in chronological order, great job!”
What reinforcing consequences can you arrange that are more naturally or intrinsically connected to this targeted behavior?
We develop resumes in order to seek new employment or educational opportunities. When possible, completion of the resume should be followed with an opportunity to submit that resume to a desired position.
