Communication Systems, Scripts, and Scenarios:

What communication scripts might you use to support practice of this skill?  Are these complete scripts or just scenarios?

Below are several basic scripts that might be used to support a student in labeling how they feel, and what they need.  Use these scripts during role-play, and these may also serve to remind them of what they can say when stressful situations arise:

"Self-Identify Anxiety - Scripts"

On the script card, does the student need additional picture or word cues to define his body position, facial expression, gestures, etc. during the use of the script?

Use the picture cues provided in View2do or create your own!  Script cards may include picture cues to show how an individual recognizes becoming stressed (ex: picture of clinched fists or sweating face), references to the antecedents causing the stress (ex: clock with time running out, image of someone talking loudly, music notes to indicate loud music), or cues for initiating and practicing coping strategies (ex: flower representing breathing, ocean scene for imagery).

What additional visual clarity cues (e.g. color-coding, highlighting) might you add to the visual script to promote attention and comprehension for the student?

What scenarios might you present (using scenario Act it Out cards) to help students produce their own dialogue and interactions to practice or role-play in a scene?

"Self-Identify Anxiety - Scenarios"

What video scenarios might you present to help students make accurate discriminations between appropriate and less appropriate responses?

This is a great tool to support instruction regarding identification and practice of healthy coping strategies.  Try creating two videos with the same set-up (ex: a person showing clear signs of anxiety due to a co-worker’s loud talking).  But, the second part of each video differs by the person’s reaction:  one video depicts the person screaming at the co-worker and slapping the desk; the other depicts the person saying, “Excuse me” and going to the restroom to take some deep breaths before returning to his desk.

Are you arranging frequent practice opportunities with visual scripts and scenarios to build independence and fluency through repetition?

In order to align this intervention topic area with the unique needs of the student, do you need to create scripts in the View2do program?
