Communication Systems, Scripts, and Scenarios:

What communication scripts might you use to support practice of this skill? Are these complete scripts or just key words to support initiation?

The student may need a script or communication support to notify the appropriate person that he is finished with a task.  Again, consider the individual who sits at his desk or work station once he has completed a task, and then he just waits and waits for someone to check in with him.

The script may be in the form of a reminder card that is clearly visible on his work station.  Below are several examples:

"Self-Monitoring Quality Of Work - Scripts"

Generally, the script may be on a reminder card or even in the to-do list or picture or written instructions as a step of the task. Consider if the student needs a clear script of what to say and where this can be presented so that the student uses it independently.

On the script card, does the student need additional picture or word cues to define his body position, facial expression, gestures, etc. during the use of the script?

What additional visual clarity cues (e.g. color-coding, highlighting) might you add to the visual script to promote attention and comprehension for the student?

What scenarios might you present (using scenario Act it Out cards) to help students produce their own dialogue and interactions to practice or role-play in a scene?

Practicing with scenarios is very unlikely to be necessary. Using the actual work is more appropriate.

Are you arranging frequent practice opportunities with visual scripts to build independence and fluency through repetition?

If scripting assists the student in handing off his work, make sure that the scripted cue is presented consistently in a framework that is visible to the student so that he can use it.

In order to align this intervention topic area with the unique needs of the student, do you need to create scripts or scenarios in the View2do program?
