Video Models:

Can this skill be appropriately depicted in a video model?

In this case, the video model may be very similar in content to the social narrative noted above but show the student engaging in the expected behaviors. Watching someone engage in the expected behaviors prior to the opportunity makes it more likely that the individual will engage in those expected behaviors. Consider the social narrative above and determine if a similar content can be illustrated in the video model.

Have you task analyzed this skill to ensure that your video clearly depicts every key step that comprises the skill?

In the model, will you show every step of the break process? Will you show the student moving quickly to the break area when told it is break time? Or, will you show the student completing a task and autonomously determining that it is time to break?  Will you show the student engaging in a specific sequence of activities? Will you show the student checking his watch and returning to work on time?

Who will you use as “actors” in this video – will the targeted student be included in the video?

Will you shoot this video from the perspective of the student (first person) or from the third person perspective?

Will you narrate the video?

Narration here can serve to label the expected behaviors.

Will the student be able to review the video just prior to expected performance of that skill (priming)?
