Visual Cues:

What visual instructions or reminder cues should be present in each space to support sequenced and organized performance?

You might create a visual reminder by adapting a coping comic or graphic organizer for easy access and reference later.  For example, you may create a small cue card from the decision tree or one of your social narratives that highlights the key points.  Using the “When I feel sick” coping comic, you could include only the last two frames depicting the phone conversation of calling-in.

Here is a brief comic that can be used as a quick-reference for the student who tends to miss work or school at an excessive rate, and for reasons that are not viewed by others as legitimate:

It is likely that a set of visual instructions will be very important to help the student follow appropriate protocols for calling in sick or requesting time off.   Modify information presented in an employee manual or packet if needed so that the student knows exactly who to notify, how to notify them, etc.

Where should reminder cues and instructions be placed?

Visual cues should be accessible where they will be used.  For this topic, the natural area of use will likely be in the student’s home (if the cues relate to calling in sick).  There are a lot of options, but one idea is to place a rating scale indicating how well the student feels as part of a wall-mounted schedule for daily use.  Based on the student’s self-reporting on the rating scale (e.g. 1-2 means “go to work” or 3-5 means “check ‘When I’m Sick’ folder”), he might be referred to other cues housed in a “When I’m Sick” folder or binder.

If the cues relate to requesting time off from work, these cues need to be housed in a location at work where the employee can easily reference them.

In my design of each visual support, have I considered whether the student may need visual clarity cues (added to the communication script or scenario, schedule, graphic organizer, social narrative, and / or video model) to highlight (label) or emphasize key features or concepts?

In order to align this intervention topic area with the unique needs of the student, do you need to create visual instructions and reminder cues in the View2do program?
