If you go to a job fair, be sure to dress professionally. You want to dress professionally so you can make a good first impression. Potential employers are more likely to take you seriously if you look nice and neat than if you look sloppy.  Clothes can send a message to people about you, so dress to impress!  Dress as if you are going to a job interview. 

 



What does it mean to dress professionally?

Men: Women:

Man in suitIn order to dress professionally at a job fair, MEN should wear:                        

  • Best choice:  A suit and tie
  • Second choice:  Nice slacks, a button down shirt (tucked in), and a blazer
  • Third choice:  Nice slacks and a button down shirt (tucked in)           
In addition, MEN should also wear:

CheckmarkMatching socks and shoes

  • brown shoes = brown socks
  • black shoes = black socks

CheckmarkMatching shoes and belt

  • brown shoes = brown belt
  • black shoes = black belt

CheckmarkPolished, clean shoes

CheckmarkClean, wrinkle-free clothing

CheckmarkClothing that fits well—not too tight, and not too loose.

Guidelines for men:

XNo low-riding pants = no part of your underwear should be visible at any time

XNo hats!

In order to dress professionally at a job fair, WOMEN should wear:                        

  • Best choice: A pants or skirt suit
  • Second choice:  Dress pants /skirt and a nice blouse
  • Third choice: Dress pants and a nice matching sweater
In addition, WOMEN should also wear:

CheckmarkLow heels or "flats"  = no socks, but maybe pantyhose

OR

Checkmark Nice boots or loafers = with matching socks

CheckmarkClean, wrinkle-free clothing

CheckmarkClothing that fits well—not too tight, and not too loose

Woman in suitGuidelines for women:

XNo low-cut blouses = no part of your bra should be visible at any time

XNo short skirts = skirts should be at the top of the knee or longer

XNo low riding pants = no part of your underwear should be visible at any time

XNo hats!
