Put on a Happy Face
When you are in a customer service job, it means you will spend most of your day talking to and assisting customers. Customers expect many things when they go to purchase a good or service.
One thing that customers expect is to be treated in a friendly and respectful manner.
- Why do customers expect this? Customers expect this because they are paying for a good or service, so they feel that the company and its employees should be friendly towards them. When you are a customer, you want to be treated in a friendly and respectful manner too, right? That’s what everyone wants no matter where they are.
- Companies also expect employees to treat customers in a friendly and respectful manner. Why do companies expect this? Companies expect this because they know that if the customer is not treated in a friendly and respectful manner, then the customer might not buy their good or service. This will cause the company to lose money!
In customer service jobs, you have to try to "put on a happy face." This means you have to try to act friendly and happy, even when you are in a bad mood.
- First, you replace this face:
with this one ----->
Greet customers by saying "Hello," "How can I help you?" or "How are you?"
Look in the direction of the customer.
Smile at the customer.
Speak with a friendly tone of voice.
Respond to the customer when they speak to you.
Offer to help the customer if they need it.
Say "Goodbye," "Have a nice day," or "Thanks for coming in" as the customer leaves.
