Areas of Work Setting

No admittance signAt your job site, you will most likely have certain areas where you do your assigned work.  For example, at an office, you may have your own desk or cubicle.  At an industrial plant, you may have an area where you stand at an assembly line.  Or, at a restaurant there may be some main areas in which you work, such as the kitchen and dining area.

It is important to stay in your own work areas when working for a number of reasons:

  • You will be more likely to stay focused and to complete your assigned tasks.

  • Your supervisor will know where you are so he/she can find you.

  • You will avoid getting in trouble for being in an area that is private or off limits.

There may be some areas of the work place that are off limits to certain employees.  Be aware of these areas and do not enter them without the required permission.

Tip

During work times, you should be at your assigned work area(s).  When you are taking a break, then you should be in your work area or in the designated break or lunch area.

Here are some examples of places that might be off limits to most employees:

XThe manager /supervisor’s office when they are not there
XA co-worker’s office when they are not there
XA co-worker’s booth or cash register area when they are not there
X Storage / supply closets (sometimes only certain people are allowed to access those)
X Closets / areas holding confidential medical or financial information
