Application Formats - Completing Handwritten Applications

Pen WritingWhen you complete a hand-written application, follow these guidelines:

  1. Politely ask for two copies of the application—a practice copy and a real copy.

  2. Use the practice copy first.

  3. icon of quiet personComplete the application in a quiet and comfortable location (i.e. somewhere in your house, the library).

  4. Have all items from the Application Checklist with you before you start!

  5. icon of clockMost hand-written applications take approximately one hour to complete.

  6. Write in black or blue ink only.  Pencil can be difficult to read, and other colors (red, green) seem childish and unprofessional.

  7. Write as neatly as you can.  Many people have messy handwriting, and it is ok if your handwriting is not perfect!  It just needs to be legible (readable to others).  Take your time as you write.  You don’t have the complete the entire application in one sitting.  Take breaks if needed.

  10. Return your final version to the manager at the place of business (put it in an envelope), or mail it to the address indicated on the application form.   Try to return it within 48 hours.
