Following Work Schedule

Follow your assigned list of tasks schedule.  If you do not have a schedule or list, then make your own checklist of everything you need to do that day.  Cross off each item as it is completed. Take breaks during assigned break times.

When you go to work, you will probably have to follow a work schedule.  Most employers have a plan for what tasks need to be done.  You are being paid to follow this plan and to complete the assigned tasks. 

Your work schedule might include these things:

• What tasks to do
• How to do the tasks
• Where to do those tasks
• When to do those tasks
• How long to do those tasks

There are many distractions at work that can interfere with you getting your work done.  For example, if you work on a computer, the internet can serve as a major distraction!  Social conversations with co-workers’ can also be a distraction.  There are many distractions at work and in life in general. 

It is important to remind yourself that you are at work to do your job.  You are getting paid to complete tasks, not just to show up and be in the work place. It is important to do your assigned work during your work periods and do leisure activities during break times. 

Here are examples of leisure activities that you should not do when you are supposed to be working:

		To Do Lists

Making personal phone calls, emails, or texts
Surfing the internet
Online social networking
Playing computer games
Reading for pleasure
Napping
Long social conversations with co-workers (it is okay to chat for a few minutes)
